A PREVIOUS KITCHEN RENOVATION IS UPDATED TO SEAMLESSLY MATCH A 1911 HOME'S PERIOD CHARM

RESPECTING THE DESIGN OF AN OLD ENGLISH-STYLE DWELLING was the challenge in redesigning and updating an eat-in kitchen after an unsatisfactory renovation by the previous homeowners. The new owners wanted to expand it to access the home's outdoor space for an al fresco eating area, as well. Reclaimed antique red oak was used for the new kitchen's four-foot-high wainscot and for exposed ceiling beams, tying into the adjacent dining room's wood paneling. The same wood was also used for the cabinetry, pantry and appliance doors. Stainless steel with a baked-on matte finish was used to make the commercial oven's custom hood and backsplash blend with the room's dark wood paneling. Details like leaded glass in the china cabinet pay homage to windows throughout the home. Outside the kitchen, a stone terrace was created for an outdoor eating area and leads to the rear yard by means of a elegant stone stairway. An important element of this renovation was incorporating modern conveniences into the new kitchen while respecting the details of the Tudor-style home.
