LIMITED WALL SPACE PRESENTED A MAJOR CHALLENGE FOR A KITCHEN THAT NEEDED ENTERTAINING SPACE AS WELL AS ROOM TO COOK |
LARGE WINDOWS, THREE DOORWAYS LEADING OUT TO OTHER rooms and limited wall space for upper cabinets all posed a challenge in creating this new kitchen. An 11-foot-long hearth was designed as the focal point, anchored by a 60" Wolf dual-fuel range with two full-sized ovens, which eliminated the need for a separate oven cabinet. The homeowners wanted an equally long island with seating for five and an area specially designed for serving guests. Two units, a Sub-Zero 36" all-refrigerator and a 36" all-freezer, were supplemented with refrigerator drawers, providing storage for fresh and frozen food. An adjacent space houses a microwave and an espresso machine and, to the right, an entertaining center includes a Sub-Zero wine cooler, icemaker and self-service coffee station. The all-white kitchen is warmed by the distressed butternut wood of the island, and the homeowners reused leaded glass doors to bring charm to a kitchen that clearly keeps friends in mind.
