LETTER FROM THE CEO

What Lies Ahead
[Marianne Howatson]

On October 21, Richard Ekstract, founder of Cottages & Gardens Publications, sold the titles to my company, Dulce Domum, LLC, a Connecticut media company. Cottages & Gardens Publications, LLC included the nine-year-old Hamptons Cottages & Gardens, Palm Beach Cottages & Gardens (founded in 2002), Connecticut Cottages & Gardens (2004) and Westchester Cottages & Gardens (2007).

Cottages & Gardens Publications built a successful model focused on delivering national-quality editorial with a local flavor to high net-worth individuals. The company established a dominant position in the most affluent communities in the New York metropolitan area.

Cottages & Gardens created a new paradigm in luxury market media that uses a shared resource base to launch regional magazines and web properties, extending the brand from market to market. I look forward to working with the Cottages & Gardens team to expand and strengthen our existing titles and develop our Internet offerings.

D.J. Carey, editorial director of Connecticut Cottages & Gardens since 2004, will continue in her role reporting to me. Carey, who launched the Connecticut title, has seen how well consumers and the design community have responded to the magazines.

I have been in media for more years than I care to reveal and have published some of the country's finest magazines, including Travel & Leisure, Self and Parents. During the Internet boom, as a founding member of the content-solutions company Screamingmedia.com, I traveled the world acquiring content in seven languages and talked to publishing companies about opportunities in this new medium. Those who embraced the concept of setting content free and identifying how to communicate effectively online have fared better than others.

It is our plan to embrace any and all media platforms that will serve you best. Please do not hesitate to let us know how we can deliver our message better or provide an enhanced user experience for each of you.
