EDITOR'S LETTER

I'll admit it: I love award ceremonies, everything from my daughter's academic achievement events to the Academy Awards. I love the stars, the suspense and, of course, the gowns. I had the thrill one year of watching the Oscars with a friend who worked on a film that won for best animated short. You should have felt the electricity in that living room!

A few months ago I talked about wanting to see more from our designers. Connecticut has a long tradition of being fertile ground for innovation. From Philip Johnson's Glass House in New Canaan to Louis Kahn's masterpiece at Yale, design has a rich and storied past in this state. And it's by no means limited to architectural design—the Frisbee, the Wiffle ball, Silly Putty and Pez Candy were all invented here. Now, I want to discover the next generation of design innovators.

With this in mind, the editors at CTC&G decided it was time for us to hold our own awards competition. The Innovation in Design Awards is open to all design professionals who have worked in our state in the categories of residential architecture, interior design, kitchen and bath design, and landscape design. Entries will be judged by our editors and prominent professionals in each specialty. Winners and their projects will be showcased in our July 2007 issue, culminating with an awards ceremony.
