It's now on the market for $9 million with the stipulation that prospective buyers must provide proof from a lawyer or accountant that they actually have the financial resources to buy the house, to cut down on curiosity seekers—"except for the rich ones," says Warburg with good humor.
Mountain Retreat, Sherman
Built into a granite ledge some 900 feet above Candlewood Lake is a lofty but compact home comprised of just over 2,000 square feet on almost four mountaintop acres. As part of the Candlewood Lakes Estates association, the home comes with a boat slip and access to four private beaches. Its high perch makes for dramatic outdoor entertaining around the heated, gunite pool, which is pinned into the granite ledge and has sweeping views over the lake and onto the Litchfield hills, says owner/agent Marcia Casey of William Raveis in Sherman, a Fairfield County town that has the bucolic beauty of its Litchfield County counterparts but is much closer to the city. Casey's home has three bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms and is on the market for $1.4 million (860-354-0204).
Westport Movers & Sellers
We nominate Westport as the town to watch for real estate action as the spring market sizzles into summer. While Martha announced that she was officially putting Turkey Hill on the block, Phil Donahue and Marlo Thomas were closing the sale of their 7.7-acre Beachside Avenue compound. The buyer, reported as Herbert Allison Jr., CEO of TIAA-CREF, paid the full asking price of $25 million, according to sources.
